The narrator jumps into the story and tells us that he's looking for Mina. He asks her if she has any friends, and she says that she doesn't have any. He then asks her why she kissed Yukari, and Mina says that it's because she's afraid to tell her that she loves Udolpho. The narrator then asks Mina if she'd like to talk to someone about the kiss. Mina says she would like to, but she can't. She wants to know why Yukari has refused all of her offers, and why the ministry of health, labor, and welfare has also refused to help her. Mina then asks if she can talk to a friend who cried the day of the kiss, and the narrator says that's what she wants to do. He wants to tell the friend how he feels when he sees her, and he wants the friend to say that he feels the same way when he touches her. He says that he wants them to laugh at him, and to tell him that he is totally like Yukari. Mina is surprised that he would want to talk about such a thing, because she says she has always been spoiled by her genius, and now she thinks that she has fallen in love with him. She asks if there's anything she can do to convince Mina to change her mind, but Mina says there is no way to convince her, since she has already decided that it would be better for her to focus on future research in an unbiased manner.
