In this chapter, we learn that the main stone has been destroyed, and that Sagawa's body is in a state of decay. The narrator wonders if it is a miracle that he is still alive, and wonders if he will ever be able to produce enough food to survive. He wonders how he will survive without the stone, since he has no other option.
