This chapter opens with a flashback to the events of the previous chapter, in which we learn that Sagawa was trying to get to his mother's house when he fell behind the store and injured his own foot. Sagawa's wound is so serious that he is unable to move his foot, but he is able to walk. He tells us that if he were to continue running, he would be in danger of losing his leg. He urges his friends to go after him, but they are too scared to do so.
