About This Chapter
The narrator tells us that he's not sure what's going on with Mina, but he does suspect that she's involved in some kind of love-operation. He's heading back to the U.S. to report it to the Cardinal. The narrator says that he needs to report this to the cardinal because he doesn't know what to do now. He wonders if it was the kid's "homing instinct" that brought them back to earth, or if they used a stone to bring the kid into stasis? The narrator wonders if they've got nothing to lose by bringing a kid back into the world. He asks the narrator to stop the kid, but the narrator says it's too dangerous for him to do so, so he'll just let the girl mako do the job for him. When the narrator realizes that the kid has been spooked by a tree, he freaks out. He tells the narrator not to worry, and the narrator tells him to chill out for a bit before he leaves. He says he can't do it if kids stare at him, so the narrator asks the old man to do it. The old man agrees, and they go off to find out what happened to the kid.
