He wants to take a picture of them together so he can use it as a starting point for a romance. The narrator is impressed by the young man's ability to act like a model. He also notices that the girl is determined to find a boyfriend, and that she's wearing a dress that's grown too mature for her own tastes. He asks the girl if she'd like to go to the grave site with them, and the girl says she would, but she doesn't want to go because it's too small a place for her to live. She also tells the narrator that she wants to thank him for taking care of Hiro-san, but he won't go because he's busy with work. He tells the girl that he'll be holding down a fort for the rest of the day, so she can come visit the gravesite with them. The girl is glad to hear that, and says she'll take care of the boy. She's also glad to see that the two cousins are happy together, because they've been working so hard to get to where they are. She wants to have a competition to see who can find the fastest boyfriend or girlfriend before the next day of the funeral.
