About This Chapter
The narrator tells us that he doesn't know if he'll ever be friends with Tommo again, but he does know that he's going to have to deal with the fact that he can't be with the other girls anymore. He's also worried about how Tommo will react to the news that he and oda aren't getting along. The narrator asks if he can help her pick out a present for her older sister's birthday, and she tells him that she's planning to go to the fireworks festival with her sister. Tommo reminds her of the one she wore at the festival, and he asks her if she regrets telling Tommo she likes him. She says that she has, and that she wishes she could have told him she liked him, but that it would have been a pain for him to tell her. She asks if she can talk to her about something, and Tommo tells her to wait until she gets home to think about it.
