He thinks he was lonely, but now that they live in this house, he thinks he'll be happy. He tells his sister that even though their parents died and they all got separated, the house is still lively. He says that he'd never leave the house because his sister isn't happy with her dad. He invites her to stay with him, and she agrees. That night, she returns with a suitcase, her father in tow. He gives her rent for the month, but she refuses to pay it, saying that she's going to stay at his house. The next day, the narrator cooks her sister's dinner, and it's delicious.
