About This Chapter
"Scorpion slump" is the title of this chapter's dialogue. It's a reference to the fact that Jim's shoulder is still bothering him. He's not sure if it's healed yet, but he's going to have to get a doctor's opinion on it. He also wants to know why the doctor is treating him like a "guard dog" instead of treating him the way he should be treated. Jim says he'll have to go back to the hospital right away, so they should hurry up and leave. He doesn't want Mr. Lunaison to stay with him for a week, either. He wants him to just leave him alone. He complains that the food is disgusting, and that the dog is just "grouchy" . He wonders why the dog's touching him so naturally, and he wonders if something came up the next day that made him want to leave the house. He says they're going to be back soon, so he wants to hear what happened to his shoulder. He asks if he got into a fight again, and the doctor says that it'll be fine. He tells Jim that his shoulder has been fine since the first day of treatment, but that he can't touch it at all. Jim asks if this is the "placebo effect" , which means that a patient believes that a medicine will make them better, even though there's no evidence that the medicine actually cures them. He thinks that's weird, and wonders if he was just so surprised by the kiss that it made him forget the pain of the injury. He then wonders if the "super hero team" is a religious group, or a group of people
