Weiyu reminds us that he already said this, but he doesn't want us to hear it. He's worried that the other students are laughing at him because he's the one who's upset. He thinks that they're acting like gossip and that they don't really mean to hurt anyone. He also thinks that if a guy likes a girl, she'll be happy about it, but if he likes a boy, she won't be happy. He tells her that if she gets angry, he'll beat her up. He says that they still treat him like a brother, even after they've laughed about the whole thing. They're not very particular about who they guard against, but who knows what other thoughts they might have? He says he isn't looking down on someone, but that different people will have their own levels of acceptance, and that's what communal living is all about. When they go to the canteen, he notices that the students are all enthusiastic about performing. He asks if they were fighting about something, and they say that they were waiting for the audience to return from lunch. They leave, and he wonders why they suddenly feel foreign. He wonders if the students he has been hanging out with for the past two years are really the same people he met two years ago. He decides to work hard on his exams and move to a new place.
