In this chapter, we're introduced to Dr. Rivers and Dr. Manette, who've just gotten back from a fight with another patient. They're talking about what happened the night before, and Rivers asks why they got into a fight. He's not sure, but he's pretty sure it's because of his home situation. He also says that he always feels like the two of them have "an indescribable chemistry" because they haven't said a word to each other since they were little kids. He says that they've even sent him a thong, which is a thong that's kind of like a sleeping bag, but with a bunch of different kinds of holes in it. The thong is a gift from the doctor and the nurse, and they're going to give it to him when he gets home from the hospital. The nurse and the doctor apologize for their part in the fight, but they don't say anything about the thong being opened when they get home.
