About This Chapter
After washing up, the Governess tells her son to go back into the room. She tells him to close the door and tells him not to worry about his behavior. The Governess says that her son is not disobedient, and that she is willing to stay with the family if there were no money. She says that she likes the top bunk in the bedroom, because she does not have any other siblings. When she tells him that his parents are coming home, he says that he will have to wait until midnight for his father to come home, since he is a pub owner. He tells her that he has already greeted his parents, and says that there is a student who can supervise his studies, and he will be happy. He says that it is better to not be able to see them all the time, since it is a good thing that they do not quarrel through the door. He asks if she thinks that the fee for her to learn art was easy to earn, and she replies that she had to pay many people to send her into the top school. She compares her grades to that of her son, who is half as hard-working as her. She asks him if he thinks that his house is a mess. He replies that he is used to it, and asks her what she wants to do.
