The scene opens in the palace of the new emperor, where Peto is resting. Peto tells the king that he has come to settle his differences with Peto. The king asks Peto if he can be with him forever, and Peto coughs. He says that he is afraid that Peto has a fever, and asks the king's doctor to come and treat her. He tells Peto that the prince regent has come with his majesty, and the king tells him to come in and see what he is going to do. The prince regent plans to go after Peto's wife, but Peto wants to marry him.
