In this chapter, the narrator explains that he has worked with Madame Quinzi not only because he likes her company, but also because she is very competitive. He tells her that he is not a trickster, and that he wants to win the heart of her. He also tells her to send his regards to her father, who is very influential in the business community. He says that after she left her father's company, she nearly lost all of her money, because she did not run her business well.
