The narrator and the other boys discuss the upcoming chocolate day, which is supposed to be a day of "romance and flirting" for "junior high girls" . The narrator says that last year, the boys were warned not to get chocolate, but this year, they're being told not to because a girl they like will give them a chocolate to another boy. The boys are upset that they haven't gotten chocolate yet, and they mock the girl who gave them the chocolates, saying that they would have laughed at them if they had gotten chocolate from a "male class mate." The boys decide that they'll have to "swallow their pride" and "go the distance" if they want to win the day.
