About This Chapter
The chapter closes with a soliloquy in which the narrator laments his inability to complete his assigned tasks. He asks the reader to imagine what it must be like to be a student in college and to imagine that he is in love with another student. The narrator wonders aloud whether it would be better for him to enter a school of pastry arts and become a pastry cook, rather than enter a university of baking arts. He wonders whether it is better to enter the university of the same profession as the narrator, since he might later want to work for the company of the narrator in the future. He feels that the narrator is worried about him, and he wonders whether the narrator will be able to keep a close eye on him. He tells the narrator that he should work hard so that he will not regret later when he might want to do the same work as him
