The Governess tells the group that she's glad to see them, because they'll be able to hang out with them instead of going out with their "boyfriend" . The group is shocked to hear that their boyfriend has ditched them for work. They're shocked that he'd ditch his pretty girl for a job, and they can't believe that he would do such a thing.
