In this chapter, we get a brief description of the demon boss, who is described as having a "real mean face" . He's also tall, so people think he's a "shakedown" , and when he lectures someone, people think that it's his boss. The problem, says the narrator, is that the boss doesn't seem to care about the fact that people whisper about him. The narrator thinks the boss should be a little friendlier to the girl. He tells her that he'll try to make a "daquoise" for her next time at the shop. He also tells her to keep the secret that she's an ex-hooligan. He says that tomorrow, people might find out that she was once an "ex - hooligan" and that she should keep it a secret. He adds that he just read an article about the "all dessert article" and thought it was cool that the guy was cool again. He then tells the girl to stop messing around and to stop apologizing for being so angry with him. He wants her to stop crying and to give her a "reminder too" about how angry she is with him, because people are going to talk about her behind his back again.
