The narrator tells us that the first time he and Amane meet, Amane is from an upper-class family. He's like a hero to Amane, because he's his sister's brother, and he wants to protect her. Amane says that he came with him to pray that he'd have a good marriage, and the narrator says that's a good thing, because Amane's fate was sealed the moment he met him. The narrator explains that since the beginning of the novel, there's been a lot of competition for the position of "Kaminagi omega" , which is a Japanese term for a mate. There are two kinds of omegas: those who have money and those who don't have money. A man who has money can get a mate, but he can't get an "Alpha" . So, if Amane wants to get married, he'll have to wait until his mate has already been chosen. A lot of people have been waiting for Amane to get his mate, and now Amane has to wait for his mate to be chosen. He doesn't want to tell Amane about the other two men in his life, because they're so distant.
