In this chapter, we learn that Don Pedro was once the "best fighter around" when he was in high school. When his parents died in a car accident, Don Pedro's father ordered him to go back to school. Don Pedro tells us that he is the only person who can protect Don Pedro from his neighbors. He says that when they were children, they were called "the bear - killer" and that his boss, the farmer, took care of him like a son. The old man who works in the fields gave Don Pedro a flyer about the upcoming fair, and Don Pedro says that he will have to do the fair along with his daily tasks.
