This chapter opens with a description of Queen Isabella, the mother of King Ferdinand and the Duke of Avis. She was the first woman in the kingdom to use magic powers to serve her people. Her life was tortuous and brilliant, but she was loved by everyone. Everyone called her "Mother of the Kingdom." This dress was left by his mother but he lent her to wear it, and she got through her first big test "smoothly." She tells us that she is feeling "more and more certain" now that she wears the dress, and that the Duke is "different from what appears to be." The Duke shows Isabella the annex of his mansion, where she will be staying. He tells her that he was on a lifeboat when an explosion happened, and they were sent to her after arriving at the capital. He shows her the garden, which is perfect for tea parties. He says that the King has sent her dresses and ribbons, and he asks her if she wants to speak with him. The Duke says that he will tell a spoiler about the next chapter, for everyone to see, but he promises to give a spoiler for everyone.
