In the middle of the night, Shu-Li tries to figure out what's going on. She realizes that her sister-in-law is having an affair with her husband's friend, and she's worried that she'll be blamed for the child's death. She's also worried that the child isn't hers, since she said that she wanted to get rid of it. Shu-Ling tries to convince her mom and sister that she doesn't want the child, but they won't listen to her. She tells them that she wants to keep the child because she wants a grandson, and they're shocked that she would want to keep a child from her husband.
