In this chapter, Cai Ming tells his son-in-law that if it weren't for Cai Ming's letter to the emperor, his father wouldn't be in jail. Cai Ming asks why Cai Ming is meeting with the emperor in the first place, and Cai Ming replies that he's been eating well since he arrived at the palace. He also tells Cai Ming that the censorate helped him to write the letter, and that Cai Ming would have been released without it if he hadn't written such a good letter. He's also worried that the emperor will go back on the words he said about Cai Ming, and so Cai Ming apologizes to Cai Ming for all the trouble that he has caused. He admits that he hasn't loved Cai Ming very much in the past, but Cai Ming reminds him that there's always a place for him in his heart. Cai Min asks Cai Ming to help him leave the palace, but he'll have to lead the general to the palace to meet the emperor.
