In this chapter, the monster is overcome with desire. He tells his master that he will complete the task, even if it means that he has to leave his beloved. He feels guilty about the fact that he robbed her of her cradle, but he still has a "bit of humanity" in him. He asks his master why he did not tell her earlier that he would not be returning to her. He says that he left because she did not want to spend any more time with him.
