In this short scene, the audience is introduced to the characters of the novel. The first person we meet is the young woman, who is the love interest of the young master, and who is also the object of his affections. The scene opens with a heart-rending scene in which the young man is wounded in the heart. He is overcome with grief at the loss of his beloved, and he realizes that he is the only person in the world who could possibly love him. He realizes that his love for his master is the most important thing in his life. He also realizes that the love he has for his lady is so great that he cannot bear to let her go.
