The young man wants to buy more jades, so he asks Ming for a bet. Ming says he'll help the young man carve a pendant out of a mauve jadeite if he can find another icy jade within three days. If Ming can't find any icy jades in three days, then Ming can sell the pendant at the normal price. If he finds an icy jade, Ming will win. Ming asks why Ming is so familiar with the old man. He's heard rumors that Ming is a "leading figure" in the jade carving world, and that any jade signed by him can be sold for a whopping price. Ming tells Ming to stand by his friends, not the "outsider" . He adds that if Ming wants to give away his money, Ming can do so, but if he wants to carve the jade into a pendant, he has to do it within two days. Ming is okay with this, but he adds one more condition: if Ming wins, he must find a jade stone with Ming's right eye.
