About This Chapter
When the narrator arrives at the house, he finds that it is a "shabby house" with "pretty much nothing in it. There is only one bed with hay on it, and the only thing in the house is a stone table and a stool. The narrator asks to borrow some sleeping bags and then asks to be allowed to sleep with Tony. When Tony replies that he thinks he is complimenting the narrator, the narrator realizes that Tony is genuinely interested in him. They have been in a relationship since high school, and both of their families have been willing to give anything to cure her, but money was not able to buy her life. In the ward she told him that she was still to take the picture which she wanted to, but that she should not be cremated. The mirror showed her a picture of kang, which meant that the mirror showed an image of the current kang. He must be in an "alternate game right now!" The narrator believes that he is still alive and will never abandon him. He asks if Tony thinks he will do anything for her. He sounds calm. He was so sure when he said he did not love her that he thought that she hated him or something. He saw his lovers, while he saw his mother. How could he say that, he thought you were "smart for one second." The narrator feels that he has been staring at the mirror for "quite some time now" and wonders if he is the only one aware of what is going on. He has to get up and go to sleep.
