The next morning, Ling wakes up to find that a'xing has woken up. He's glad to see that the two men are safe, because the game is about to get more dangerous. Ling asks his brother to guard the rear of the house, so that he doesn't have to worry about anything. Ling is worried that his brother is offering him alcohol, so he asks him to stay and watch over the shopkeeper with his son. Ling says that he'll keep an eye out for the shopkeeper, and he and his brother should go check on their son. A'rong says that his son gave him everything he wanted when he was alive, and that's why he's still angry with jiang. He says that it's normal for a man to have three, four, or five wives. Without jiang, he won't enjoy his days as a husband. Ling wonders why jiang hasn't come to see him, and wonders when she got in.
