The narrator is in his room at the gemini hotel in Paris. He's been waiting for ten days for his room to open. The door is opened, and he asks if the guy in the mirror is melancholy or happy. The guy says that he's not worried about trying to be happy, and the narrator thinks that's a good thing. The narrator says that the guy disgusts him. He smells something funny when he leaves his room, and thinks that it's the guy's mouth. He tells the guy that he remembers him from all the employees at the company, and that he is happy to see him there. He asks the guy if he doesn't mind if he needs him to do anything. He says that everyone is out, and asks where the kid came from. The kid says that his uncle is no taller than him at the moment, and says that this guy offended everyone in a short amount of time.
