In this chapter, the narrator explains that he doesn't have a family and that he's not going anywhere. He's going to have the chef cook some lighter dishes for him. He wants to know why Zeng hasn't spoken to him in a few days. Zeng tells him that he can speak the language, and the narrator is shocked. He realizes how embarrassing it is that he didn't say anything. He tells Zeng that he loves listening to what he has to say, and he wants to go home. But Zeng says he can't go home because he'll be drunk and look cute when he gets home. The narrator tells him not to worry, because he can protect him for life. He says that he won't leave, and that if he did, he'd be too jealous to let him go. He also says that even if he feels sorry for Zeng , he still has to hold him tight. He adds that he wouldn't let Zeng go if he felt sorry for him, but that he would be jealous if he let go. So he tells him to slap Zeng for letting him go for a "little pet" . He then says that they have to curry the favor of vice-governor Lu, and they need to make sure that the eldest son of the Fu family dies so that they can get fei yuan from him.
