In this chapter, we learn that the story of Linfeng and Arlene begins six years ago, when Linfeng was twenty years old. He and arlene have been lovers ever since, but they have never spoken to each other. They have played games together, and Linfeng sings to Arlene's voice. He tells her that he wishes he could be with her right now, and that he misses her terribly. He apologizes for taking makeup lessons for her, but she does not speak to him for three days. He realizes that he can only find her through the web, so he asks her to meet him face to face. He wants to see her face-to-face, and she agrees. She is beautiful without makeup, and he wants to know what she wants. He asks her why she is holding her hands so cold. She says that she is his girlfriend, and they had a very happy time together. She asks if he will hate her because of his old age. He says that he beat the man up, but the man's words really hit him. He knows that he cannot lose her, and asks her if she is willing to give herself to him. She replies that she would never give herself for him. Linfeng says that his mother told him that he could not do that before he got married, and so he is heading back to China. He begs her to pull back, and says he is sorry to her that she has not spoken to him since they fell in love. He then asks her what she thinks of online dating. She answers that it is just a way to fall in love, but that it should be carefully treated with caution.
