The narrator tells us that the baby is doing well, and that it's time for him to go to bed. He tells his grandfather that he's going to have a great night. The narrator doesn't understand why the marriage amulet works. He's not sure if he likes his grandfather, or if he'd like to marry him. He says that he likes himself because he was unlucky, although he was lucky to be born into a good family. He explains that he almost thought he had a terminal illness once, when he was feeling like he wasn't himself. But now, he says, he feels like he has escaped from the amulet and is getting sick. His grandfather tells him that if the amulet continues, it'll bring disaster and bad luck. He also tells the narrator that the other members of the family don't seem to like him, because they've been scolding him for so long. Now that the family has been scolded so much, the only thing that's left to do is to take care of rourou.
