The chapter opens with a flashback to the previous chapter, in which the narrator explains that he lost his job at the feng shui company. He tells us that his family business has gone down the drain, and that he has given up everything in his family. He says that everyone in the family has become suspicious and does everything to ensure that they own their own interests. Everyone in the company is corrupt, and the market share of the company has fallen. The narrator says that he thought that his grandfather was different from the rest of the family because he stood by him and helped him when it was needed. But now, he says, his grandfather is like everyone else. He asks the narrator to find a job, but the narrator says he will not abandon him if he cant find one. He offers to give him a job as his assistant, but he says he needs money to start his own business. He then tells the narrator that his brother, jinyao, will not be able to come back because his oldest daughter, feng yuling, has already approved all of their business plans.
