In this chapter, we are introduced to two of the characters from the novel, Yoseina and Hiroyuki. The first is Hiroyuki's mother, who tells us that her son is a very good writer. The second character is her daughter-in-law, who is also an excellent writer. We learn that Hiroyuki has been writing for a while now, and that his mother has been encouraging him to do so.
