In this chapter, we learn that Shmoop's mother, Milady, has come to stay with him in order to be near her son. Milady has come home early from her trip to the snow-man's house to spend some time with Shmoo and Shmoo's father. Shmoo is upset that Milady is leaving him, but Milady assures him that they are going back to the Snow King's home. When Milady asks Shmoo why he is upset, Shmoo tells her that he is going to see his mother, and Milady says that Shmoo thinks she is his mother. She then tells Shmoo that he should not be afraid to see Milady alone, because she has done a lot for him, and he wants her to have the same happiness as he has. Shmo asks Milady if she would prefer Shmoo not to hate her, and she replies that she would rather not be jealous of her son's feelings for Milady. She gives Shmoo the pins Milady gave Shmoo to make him smile, and when Shmoo asks her why she gave the pins to her, she tells him that she wanted him to smile so Shmoo would not cry all the time.
