About This Chapter
Now that summer vacation is upon us, the narrator tells us that he's going to be spending it with his friends. He's excited about the fact that they'll be able to hang out and have fun during the break, but he worries that they won't see him as much as he'd like. He thinks that the count is going to hate him forever, and that's why he doesn't want to see him during the summer break. The narrator is bummed that they can't hang out with him during his break, because he wants to be a doctor. But the narrator is also psyched that he can be like the count, because it's time for him to get his master's degree and become a doctor, just like he always dreamed of being. He says that he hasn't forgiven the count yet, but that he hopes that someday he'll forgive him. The count whispers to himself that he has no use pretending to be the count anymore, because the count has caused him so much pain. He wonders who is trying to get him back, and the narrator says that she's not the only one who's been looking for him. She's just the one who showed him what it feels like to have a heart beat skip a beat.
