About This Chapter
In this chapter, Shmoop introduces the reader to the novel that he has written for Hiroshige. He tells the reader that there is a 99 percent chance that the protagonist's novel will be rejected, and he asks the protagonist what he would do if he met the protagonist and asked him to tell him about his novel. The protagonist tells him that he would paint the places in the novel his own color, and then he would take the protagonist to the places of the novel. He also tells the protagonist that he wants to see the protagonist again in the autumn, and that he will have to find a new place to meet the protagonist. He asks if the protagonist would like to work on his summer homework together, and the protagonist replies that he does not want to work at the library, but would rather spend time with his friend. He says that he likes snow rabbit, parfaits, and ice cream, but he prefers parfaits better than ice cream. When the protagonist asks him what he wants, the protagonist says that she wants to know about her novel, but that it would be better to spring the novel on the protagonist too abruptly. She says that even if he did not like the novel, she would still like to hear about it, because she loves the story so much that she keeps making up stories about it. She tells him about the battle between her and Dolce, and she asks him why he should try writing a novel, since the battle is almost over.
