The chapter opens with a flashback to Hayashi's dream. Hayashi is now sixty years old. He tells his son that he wishes he could have children and pass his blood on to the future. Hayase wishes that he could leave him alone. He says that his mother and his grandmother would be satisfied, but that he does not know how to make children. He also says that unless Hayase is of a certain age, he cannot get pregnant. The flashback ends with Hayashi telling his son to fix his arm and to tell the parents of the girl who died on the road.
