This chapter opens with a description of the "monster's lair" . The narrator explains that the lair is a place where "the stronger the stimulus" , the more likely it is for the creature to recreate its own memories. For example, a boy becomes a brother to a monster, and the monster is able to "encountering" the boy into becoming a monster. In other words, the stronger a stimulus is for a creature, the greater the likelihood that the creature will be able to recreate his or her own memories . In this chapter, the narrator explains how he and his friends have been able to create their own memories and memories of the monster. He tells the story of how one day, he noticed that a cherry cake was missing from the bakery. The family had to leave because of his father's job, but he thanks them for not taking him with them. He explains that he is happy now that he has been reunited with his friends, and that they are like a "real family."
