About This Chapter
In this chapter, Shmoop continues his observations of Fushi and the Old Woman. He observes that the old woman is nearly 90, and that she catches fish. He also observes that Fushi's health seems to be improving. He tells Fushi that if he were younger, he would be able to move and eat better, and the men would love him. But now that he is older, he feels like he has already done everything he wanted to do. He asks Fushi if he has any wishes, and she replies that he does, but that one day, he will feel the way he did when he was younger. She tells him to hold on to his freedom, and he tells her that his hips hurt. He says that if they sleep out in the open, they will get away, but if they stay in the dark, the sun will get them. Fushi says that she does not realize why she is like this, but he says that it must be because of the situation. He adds that if she still wants to proceed, she should close her eyes and think of what she wants to become before she is ensnared by Paradise.
