About This Chapter
In this short scene, Desdemona and the others are in the middle of the battle when they hear the sound of a splash coming from the enemy's camp. They realize that the enemy is looking for them, so they throw away their masks and run for home. They find that it is the croppies who have been searching for Desdemonas, and they ask her why she has run away. She tells them that she did not want her father's men to take her back before they could find her. She says that she is not mad at her father anymore, but that she does not want to go home because she feels most at home with her father. She asks her father why he has hired 20 men to search for her, and he replies that he probably hired them to do so. He tells her that they should return to the booze-man's house, where she feels more at home. He asks her if she has forgiven her father, and she replies that she has not, and that he is probably not going to return. He says that he does not know if she will return, because he has not been useful in the battle, and because the enemy has an element of surprise. He goes on to say that he will get her to a doctor, who will tell her what has happened.
