In this short scene, Ren tells his friends that if their hearts are with the Japanese, their country will soon succumb to invasion. He tells them to return to their motherland. He also tells them that the Japanese have signed a treaty allowing them to invade three provinces of northeast China. Ren says that his father does not believe the things he has seen and feels in Japan, and he cannot see the signs that the country is on the brink of collapse.
