This chapter opens with a discussion between the provincial governor and the provincial squire. The young man complains that the young man is a pampered bachelor and that he can't catch up with a child. The provincialsquire replies that he cannot compare with the tabloid journalists because he's too slow to catch up to the child. He says that the livelihood of people is just gossip. He also says that if it were journalists with no conscience, he could take on ten of them. He then goes on to say that he is a journalist for a newspaper and can still criticize wrong doing even in the face of the president. He adds that his sister is innocent and pure, and that his family is slandering him. He goes on and on about slandering his family and how he has only been investigating rumors about his sister. He tells the young master that a cargo ship from Guangzhou arrived two days ago and that there are 20 containers of iron looms on the dock. The ship has to wait for the commander chu to arrive before it can unload the iron looms.
