About This Chapter
Okay, now that we're back in the present, it's time for the flashback. We're introduced to the narrator's father, who's still in hiding. He's a little worried about his son-in-law, but he's also happy that he hasn't been kidnapped or tricked out of his home yet. He tells the narrator that he'll be watching over him and juan-er as they continue to make their family's business prosper. We learn that yuesheng-lan often comes to the store to cause problems, and that the rude young master often helps him persuade the store owner away. The narrator doesn't know what to make of this, but it sounds like the young master is using the store as a pawn to get away from his uncle. He says that if the uncle had been more forceful, the situation might have been different. He then shows the narrator a photo of the young man in a costume from a book club, and says that the photo reminds him of the crossdressing man in the photo. He asks the narrator why he still has the photo, but the narrator won't tell him. Instead, he says that he wants to watch over the two of them, as they're making their family business prosper
