In this chapter, we learn that the Governess is not a "gentleman" , but rather a "foreign boss" . The Governess thanks everyone for their hospitality, and asks for help moving the dishes. She's so happy that she wants someone to come and help her, but she's afraid to ask for help because she doesn't know how to move the dishes, so she asks Chris to help her. He's kind enough to help, and he's impressed by how stylish she looks. He tells her that he made the legs for her, which is the first time he'd ever made them, and that he hopes she'll like them. He says that he'll take care of her, and they'll go for a walk. He apologizes for leaving the dishes on the table, and says he accidentally cut himself with a knife while cleaning up. He thanks everyone, and then he asks if he can go home without him. Chris says he can't, because he forgot to wrap his hand, and it's too late to do anything about it. He promises to get it all wrapped up, and goes on to say how kind he is, and how his hair is different than usual because he lets it down on his days off. He also tells us that the other night, at his house, he was so drunk that he couldn't do anything. He swears that he was
