In this chapter, the Governess tries to persuade her son to go back to the mountain with her. She tells him that the monster is a professional murderer, nicknamed the "wild ghost," who has committed countless murders. The Governess realizes that she has made a contribution to the monster's crimes, but she still has no way to know who bought the monster. When she asks him to come back with her, he tells her that they went on the mountain to look at the scenery, and the monster suddenly rushed toward them. He almost got killed, but the police will let him go if he is innocent. He also tells her to thank her brother, William, for his sacrifice to protect her. When he left, he told her that if she wanted to go out, she should call him. She feels that she cannot break free from her grandmother's love.
