The tree god tells Cang that before he can deal with him, he has to deal with the pain that Cang has suffered. He promises that he will make him pay back the pain thousands of times. Cang asks him what he should do about the future, and the tree god says that he doesn't know, but that he'll try his best. He's sorry that he caused Cang so much trouble, but he can't understand why he's so stupid. He says that his spirit world will take care of Cang, and that his appearance is very similar to that of the dead. The two men go for a walk, and Cang tells him that he hasn't been able to visit him in a week because something has happened at his house. Everyone has been avoiding him, but seeing him makes him feel at ease. He wants to finish writing a composition for his book, and he wants to be able to communicate with him as a god.
