The narrator introduces us to the protagonist, a fifteen-year-old boy named Victor Cang, who has just returned from a business trip to Hong Kong. He asks his teacher, the protagonist's older brother, if he has been bullied at school. The teacher tells him that his work is going well, and that he has no need to worry about the other students. The boy, however, refuses to take off his shoes when he enters the room, and the teacher threatens to kill him if he continues to do so. He tells the boy that if he does not change his stinky socks, he should eat something nutritious, since he has rarely seen him eat meat in his life. He says that he just discovered a tasty dish, shrimp and scallops, which will help him build muscle. The protagonist says that because he has met these people in the dark, he has never felt lonely, and when he dies, he will visit him every day. He adds that in the future, if the two of them meet someone, they will get married, and they will live happily ever after.
