He also worries about his daughter, who's pregnant, and about the other students in his class. He tells the narrator to be nice to his customers, because they're his customers for a long time. The narrator also tells us that he applied to become a school teacher, but that's not going to happen because the school doesn't have enough teachers to teach all the students.
