Cang's little seedling is gone, but he's still hopeful that he'll live long enough to see his mission to create a new world come to an end. He's also hopeful that his body will become one with the rest of the world, and that his loneliness will end. But then, fate favors him, and he gets a second chance at life in the new world. Cang named him "Run" because he taught him how to cultivate new plants and learn how to read. For hundreds of years, animals were domesticated and tools were made, and plants grew from seed. They looked similar to Cang and me, but their lives are only a few generations. They expanded their territory, forming a "monopolistic social circle" . After a thousand years, they became masters of the whole world. But conflict is always part of growing up, and conflict isn't always the end of the story. He tells him that he will come back when they've created another world. He says that he doesn't want to leave, because he wants to be with him. He promises that they'll meet again, and promises that he won't leave until they're creating another world together. He also promises that no matter what place he goes, no matter where he lands, it'll be safer than the one he just left. Can't even think about dying, he says, because his life depends on the food, clothing, and shelter that the world around him provides. He asks if a god can even die, and the answer is yes.
