In this chapter, the reader is introduced to the concept of evolution, which is the process by which living things evolve over time. In other words, if you're an animal, you'll eventually evolve into something else, like a human. The reader is then introduced to a new concept, called civilization, which basically means that humans are able to do whatever they want with the rest of the universe. This is the first time we've seen this concept in a book, so we're not sure what it means, but it's pretty clear that the reader wants to know what's going on.
